On the Path to Conflict? Scrutinizing the U.S.-China Rivalry

March 3 through April 21, 2021. (seven-week series)

Welcome to the 2021 Peace and War Virtual Summit

The Peace and War Summit at Norwich University, America’s oldest private military college and birthplace of the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), examines significant international issues with an eye at recommending viable solutions. The inaugural summit, a two-day event in September 2018, addressed North Korea’s nuclear and missile challenges. In our 2021 summit, we discuss a most pressing issue in the current global community—escalation of the U.S.-China rivalry. Specifically, the 2021 summit highlights challenges derived from military/security, economic, and technological angles. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we offer the 2021 summit virtually.

Implications of the Covid-19 Pandemic on National Security

2021 Symposium for April 7-8, 2020 banner - Implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic on National Security

Implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic on National Security

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic posed new strategic challenges within the political, military, economic, social, infrastructure, information (PMESII), and intelligence domains of nation-states. To analyze the implications of the pandemic’s impact on these domains and to explore their implications on national security the Institute for Leadership and Strategic Studies, the College of Arts and Letters, the UNG Press, and the Army Strategist Association are pleased to announce a symposium on the topic for the purpose of contributing to the scholarly discussion of this complex and strategically challenging issue.

For the purpose of this symposium, national security is the safekeeping of the nation as a whole. Its highest order of business is the protection of the nation and its people from attack and other external dangers by maintaining armed forces and guarding state secrets. Because national security entails both national defense and the protection of a series of geopolitical, economic, and other interests, it affects not only defense policy, but foreign and other policies as well. 2021 Symposium Flyer (PDF) (1.6Mb)

Symposium format. The symposium will consist of a series of speakers and panels on 7 and 8 April as well as undergraduate student presentations on the afternoon of 8 April. ISoDoMA 2017

International Symposium on the Development of Military Academies (ISoDoMA)
What is ISoDoMA?

ISoDoMA is a biennial international exchange forum that focuses on the training of young officers in military academies. This forum is attended by military and civilian personnel from military academies. The 2017 edition is organized jointly by the Korea Military Academy (KMA) and the Royal Military College Saint-Jean.

In May 2006, around ten countries with ties to KMA (Sweden, USA, France, Turkey, Georgia, Japan, Australia, Thailand and Spain) participated in the 13th edition of the Hwarangdae International Symposium whose theme was: “What is the contribution of the military academies to the development of the armed forces of their country?” During this event participants stressed the importance of these exchanges and expressed the wish to strengthen co-operation between military academies in order to improve the quality of training for young officers. A year later, in November 2007, Korea and the Military Academy of Korea hosted the first edition of ISoDoMA.
